Paddy Power Declares Holy War On Golden Palace – 07-24-09

July 24 – Ireland’s largest bookmaking outfit, Paddy Power, have today declared a holy war against online casino operator GoldenPalace.com who yesterday offered a bid of CAD$5,000 to purchase the holy tree stump of Rathkeale.

The Canadian based gaming company already own Pope Benedict’s old VW Golf along with a slice of toast allegedly bearing the face of the Virgin Mary and are now keen to add the Rathkeale tree stump to their portfolio of strange religious objects.

However Paddy Power have today launched an aggressive counter bid in an effort to secure the future of the revered tree stump and are offering €6,200 (twice the Canadian’s original bid) for the stump.

Zookz.com Record Industry Pirating Result of UIGEA

Here is an interesting spin on the current state of the record industry and pirating downloads.

Pokerati.com on Thursday featured a great entry on something many of us have been expecting to happen for a very long time now and – quite frankly, we’re surprised it hasn’t happened sooner.

There’s a new company in the song (and video) downloading game – Zookz.com – and its entire business model is based on selling "pirated" copies of American songs and movies, as permitted by WTO sanctions against the United States for infringing on Antigua’s ability to compete in the online gambling industry.

From what we understand, ZookZ offers a subscription-based model for unlimited monthly movie and music downloads.

BetUS.com, Sportingbet Benefit From Early British Open Betting

Remarkably quite a few of the online gambling websites have either not offered British Open betting or done so sporadically leading into the weekend prior to Thursday’s start.  Much of this has to do with a "wait and see" attitude while other golf events take place.

BetUS.com has been fairly consistent in keeping British Open betting odds up.

"It’s one of the most bet on events, at least in the United Kingdom," commented Payton O’Brien, Senior Editor of Gambling911.com.

While BetUS.com focuses its attention on the US market, Sportingbet.com has also been consistent in offering the odds on this event for its UK clients and those throughout Europe and the rest of the world for that matter.

May Vegas revenue: smallest decline since September 2008

May 2009 statistics released by the Nevada Gaming Control Board this week showed a moderating decline. Gaming revenues were down 8.34% in May and off 13.71% for the year to date, with revenue on the Las Vegas Strip down 6.36% for the month and down 15.31% for the year.

The May result compared with a statewide gaming revenue decline of 14.07% that was reported for April 2009.

“The revenues that came out today from Nevada indicated that the declines (on the Las Vegas Strip) weren’t as large as some other recently reported declines,” said Matthew Jacob, an analyst with Majestic Research. “I think there are some expectations out there that this is potentially the beginning of a recovery for the industry,” he added.

Daniel Negreanu Catches Nasty Virus at WSOP

Now that Daniel Negreanu has bowed out of the 2009 World Series of Poker early, he can go back to blogging….assuming he can muster up enough strength to do so.

Don’t cry any tears for Negreanu.  Not only did he cash out at eight events of the 2009 World Series of Poker, he’s also putting more than $300,000 in the bank.  That’s more than US President Barack Obama’s yearly salary.  Way to go Daniel.

Unfortunately he’s suffering from flu-like symptoms that may have played a part in his horrid performance.  Hopefully it’s not the Swine Flu.

"Out of the WSOP and don’t really care. So si
