Bankrupt BetonSports sentenced to $28m fine

The US enforcement and legal system took what appears to be token final kick at the carcass of bankrupt online gambling group BetonSports this week when a federal judge in St Louis sentenced the firm, which has been defunct for several years, to probation and a $28.2 million fine that lawyers on both sides admit is unlikely to be paid.

Company founder Gary Kaplan was sentenced last month to 51 months in prison forfeiture of $43.65 million after pleading guilty to conspiracy, racketeering conspiracy and violating the Wire Wager Act. The company’s erstwhile CEO David Carruthers remains untried and under house arrest in St Louis after several years in limbo.

Associated Press reports indicate that in the latest development a federal judge placed BetOnSports on probation for five years and issued the fine.

"It has something to do with the IPO price — it was set at a very high multiple …

With Ireland reeling from ‘Le Hand of God’ bookie Paddy Power have issued a whole host of special bets on the man who will forever be known as ‘cheating Thierry’. French forward Thierry Henry.

Unfortunately for Irish fans and Justice Minister Dermot Ahern, the likelihood of justice prevailing look slim with odds of 33/1 the match gets replayed.

The man who sent his country to next summer’s World Cup with a handball in Paris last night is 125/1 to score with his hand in South Africa, 200/1 to take his new found ability to use both hands and feet and sign for a Gaelic football team in Ireland. With last years winner of both sites’ Yearly TLB 011POKERDR on a mission to take down back-to-back honors, expect the top three spots on the Yearly Tournament Leaderboard to be hotly contested.

This year’s Tournament Leaderboards at UltimateBet  ("UB")and Absolute Poker ("AP") have combined to go network-wide and for the first time ever delivers  a staggeringly rewarding $1,000,000 prizepool directly to players at the CEREUS online poker sites.
