Blotter: Delaware commission rejects gambling expansion study findings

Delaware’s Sports and Video Lottery Commission voted five to four to reject the "de facto finding" of a study on gambling expansion in the state carried out by a gaming consulting firm. The study, conducted by TMG Consultants, a gambling industry specialty group, concluded that the state would enjoy increased revenues and a potential net gain in jobs if they allowed for the addition of two new casinos. The state currently has three "racino" facilities that combine horse racing and slot machines.

Despite the group’s findings, the commission voted to add a footnote that rejected the idea.

Lotteries and Gaming Authority chief speaks on Malta and gambling

Reuben Portanier, who took over as chief executive officer of Malta’s online gambling licensing body the Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LGA) nine months ago, has so far maintained a low international profile, but this week broke out somewhat in an interview with The Sunday Times newspaper.

Portainier took a decidedly upbeat stance in the interview, pushing the LGA’s 14-staff presence at the upcoming IGE-ICEi show in London at the end of this (January) month and claiming that the prospects for growth in Malta’s remote gaming industry this year are encouraging.

Despite the poor global economic conditions last year, Malta’s Internet licensing industry continued to grow, the official said, opining that the trend will continue.

Indian Tribes Oppose Online Gambling in California

PALM SPRINGS – After the California Nations Indian Gaming Association chairman called for unity at the Western Indian Gaming Conference on Wednesday, tribes began to tackle the complicated issue of legalizing Internet poker in the state.

Tribes have been polarized since the Morongo Band of Mission Indians and four card rooms formed an alliance to try to get legislation introduced last year to legalize Internet poker for Californians.

Association chairman Daniel Tucker said the mission of the annual meeting at the Palm Springs Convention Center was to build consensus on Internet poker issues, saying the federal push to legalize online gaming threatens the economic livelihoods tribes worked to build over the past 25 years.

"Your involvement is essential,” said Tucker, the chairman of the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation.

Consensus-building began in earnest, prompting former state Sen. Jim

A Look at Casino Slot Machines

Slot machines have been one of the biggest icons of casinos and gambling on our lives. These are in bright colors, noisy machines have been always with us, and served to draw us into the casinos to see more of the huge jackpot prizes on offer.
Slot machine players are interested in the dream of winning a big jackpot at an online casino with a relatively small initial investment. In that respect, casino slot machines have more in common with the lottery than they do with other online gambling games like craps or roulette. On a slot machine game, you might win $100,000 on a single $1 spin.
Online casinos offer slot clubs where a percentage of each bet goes back into the players’ accounts in the form of rebates. (Read the full post about ‘A Look at Casino Slot Machines’…)

Betsson re-opens shopfront after Supreme Court reversal

Only days after an adverse Court decision forced it to close its inaugural venture into land gambling through a betting shop in Stockholm, the Swedish online gambling group Betsson has been able to re-open the facility.

The re-opening was made possible by Sweden’s Supreme Administrative Court, which revoked a negative December 7 ruling from the lower Administrative Court Of Appeal which resulted in Betsson facing the possibility of hefty fines if it continued to operate.

Betsson opened the shop almost twenty months back and since then has fought a running battle with Sweden’s Lottery Inspectorate officials over whether Swedish law or EU rules on free passage of services apply.

The original decision saw the Administrative Court Of Appeal rule in favour of the Lottery Inspectorate that the outlet violated current Swedish laws on gaming.
